Six Sentence Sunday — Succubus Games #3 #SixSunday
Welcome to “Six Sentence Sunday”. Thank you for visiting and especially for any comments you might be inclined to leave.
My six today is from my upcoming release called Succubus Games. I have a release date of October 8th, a little over a week away. Succubus Games is part of Evernight’s Romance on the Go series, stories short enough to be read in a single sitting.
In this scene, Willow and Helveticus’s afternoon tryst has been interrupted by his patron goddess, Tyche, the goddess of fortune and chance. Tyche is livid with jealousy. She speaks then Helveticus:
Tell me everything or the succubus dies!” In a softer, but far more menacing voice, she adds, “And you’ll go into the arena against [Willow’s] second wearing my curse.”
Helveticus glances my way and sighs. “Alright. I’ll tell you. But let her go first.”
If you enjoyed this tantalizing little nibble, check out the host site, Six Sentence Sunday, for links to more snippets from some very talented writers.
Also Evernight Publishing will be having its second Birthday Bash starting October 1st, with a scavenger hunt. Be there for some great prizes and fun!
Succubus Games blurb:
Willow has had centuries in Sisyphus Prison to reinforce the hard-learned lesson that the jealous and capricious Greek gods are not to be trifled with. There are only two ways out, and both require Willow to compete in the annual gladiator match. The winner is freed while the loser marches straight to Tartarus to become one of Hades’ concubines. Willow plans to press all her succubus charms into service to gain the upper hand against her opponent…until she discovers who he is.
Helveticus is a demi-god with a devilish plan of his own to win his freedom, a plan that begins with the seduction of his lush adversary. He is the last person Willow wishes to battle because she’s not sure whether she wants to kill him or kiss him. Only one can be crowned the victor. Who will win the war of body over heart?
Hah, you decided to stick with Helveticus, eh? 😉 Love it!
I did, mostly because I like the funny story behind how I chose it, my NaNo nod.
She obviously knows his weak spot. Nice six! 🙂
Thanks, Jessica!
Tyche is a scary one, isn’t she?
Is Helveticus being gentlemanly by letting her go first? If so, I like him. 🙂
Hmm, maybe he is a gentleman through and through first and a schemer second. What landed him in that place after all? Yes, Tyche is one scary lady.
Quite the dilemma. With each planning an escape strategy, not sure one can or should trust the other even when they have mixed feelings. You have enough layers to make a great plot and absorbing story, which it definitely is! 🙂
Yes, you’re right! Trust is definitely one of the most valuable commodities in that place…but extremely rare.
Is he being gentlemanly or trying to show he still holds some power, maybe both?? Oh the deep rooted conflict here is fascinating.
Very good question, SJ. 😉
LOVE his name. Just sayin’…. And very interesting. Is he being noble, or are his motives far more ulterior? Inquiring minds will just have to read the story, right? 😆 Great six, Lila!
LOL…funny story behind that. This was a NaNo story and as I stared at my blank Word document, I flipped the fonts and found that one. The birth of a hero! Who knew he had such humble beginnings.
I’m intrigued to find out each of their motivations and if Tyche let’s her go. Nicely done six.
Thanks, Christine! Everyone’s motivations are rather tangled in this one as most have come to suspect from Helveticus’ actions.
Interesting six and I can’t wait to read more.
Thanks, Siren! Appreciate the read and encouraging comment.
