Six Sentence Sunday — “Willow”

This teaser comes from a short story I wrote during NaNo for the “Succubus Wiki”. The Wiki will be an anthology of short stories featuring a variety of succubi from all different worlds and genres. Kind of an erotic sampler. This six is from the last (yay!) tale I wrote to complete the first draft. It’s also one of my favorites of the bunch.
Willow’s story is set in Greek Mythology, a sort of tongue-in-cheek tale of a succubus who’s been sentenced to Purgatory for whatever spurious offense she committed against a God or Goddess.
Once a year, the residents participate in a lottery to see who will duel for their freedom. The winner is set free and the loser is shipped off to Hades.
In this six, Willow is learning more about her opponent in the battle, Helveticus. Don’t laugh at his name. I stared at a blank Word document for quite a while before this idea came to me. Helveticus speaks first:
“Mars is my father.”
“Oh, you’re Italian? That explains the Latin on your walls, I guess.”
He moves closer still. “Lilith is my mother.”
My smile withers.
Uh-oh! Why is Willow worried? What does being the son of Mars and Lilith imply?

What does it imply? I sense Helveticus is made from a dangerous combination, but one that I Willow is sure to overcome. Love the Lilith image. Sensational six, Lila!

Mars is the Roman god of war and Lilith wears many faces in history, but I typically use her as the figurative mother of all succubi. Aside from her association with succubi, my other favorite interpretation of her comes from Jewish mythology. Lilith was Adam’s first wife who left him after refusing to become subservient to him. She then refused to return to the Garden of Eden after she mated with the archangel Samael. In the Latin bible, she’s the lamia, a she demon that is half snake / half woman. You’ll perhaps remember her from one of Laurell Hamilton’s Anita books. LOTS of interesting stories about Lilith, but in this case, the reader can apply whatever knowledge he/she has about Lilith but suffice to say she’s a sexual powerhouse and would probably produce a male child with similar charms as an incubus.

Roman, Italian… same thing with an updated geographical moniker. LOL It means he’s going to be a formidable opponent, able to beat her on her own playing field and then some. I hope she’s on good terms with Hades. 😉 Thanks, Aimee!

Mars doesnt seem to impress her nearly as much as Lilith. Lovely bit of foreshadowing there 🙂
